Ladies and Gentlemen
Today, 27 September 2023, on World Tourism Day, we join together to celebrate an industry that goes far beyond simply discovering new horizons. Tourism is a powerful driver of peace, mutual understanding and economic growth. This is an opportunity for all of us to recognise the importance of this industry and its role in building a more prosperous, inclusive and diverse future, particularly in Africa.
Africa, our mother continent, is a treasure trove of natural, cultural and historical diversity. The Democratic Republic of Congo, in particular, has extraordinary tourism potential, from the majestic falls of the Congo River to national parks with exceptional wildlife and rich cultural traditions. Travellers will discover breathtaking landscapes, incredible wildlife and warm hospitality.
But Africa offers so much more. From East Africa, with its savannahs populated by herds of lions and elephants, to Southern Africa, with its fascinating desert landscapes, to West Africa, cradle of ancient cultures, each region offers a unique experience.
However, it is important to stress that tourism must be managed in a responsible and sustainable way, in particular by preserving fragile ecosystems and respecting local cultures. By investing in sustainable tourism in Africa, we can preserve these treasures for future generations.
On World Tourism Day, let's pledge our support for this vital industry and promote responsible travel in Africa and beyond. By exploring the riches of Africa, we can not only enrich our individual lives, but also contribute to building a more connected and supportive world, where diversity is celebrated as a source of strength and inspiration.
So whether you're visiting the majestic mountains of Rwanda, the pristine beaches of Mauritius or the national parks of DR Congo, let's always remember the power of tourism to unite, inspire and transform our lives.
