Meta, WhatsApp's parent company, continues to make improvements to its beloved messaging application. This time, it's the turn of Android users to benefit from an interface overhaul. While WhatsApp continues to introduce new features to make users' lives easier, Meta hasn't forgotten to give the design a little facelift.
WABetaInfo, a media outlet specialising in WhatsApp updates, has revealed that these new features are starting to be rolled out to beta testers of the Android app. The aim of the redesign is to give the app a new look, in line with Google's Material Design 3 concept, thanks to new colours and icons. Here are the main changes to note.
New WhatsApp design for Android
One of the most visible changes is the move of your profile avatar to the top right of the interface, near the search and camera buttons. A new shade of green has been introduced for the light and dark themes. The colours of the conversation bubbles and the floating action button have also been updated to give the application a facelift.
The aim of these minor revisions is to "offer a more modern experience by improving the overall visual appeal of the application," explains the specialist media outlet.
These changes have been rolled out to a limited number of users who have downloaded the beta version of WhatsApp for Android. To enjoy the new design on your smartphone, all you have to do is wait for the automatic update via the Google Play Store, provided, of course, that you have first joined the beta programme. Note that this interface may also be available to WhatsApp Business beta testers.
The future looks bright for WhatsApp, with a host of new features in the pipeline. You'll soon be able to pin messages to the top of your chats, and generative artificial intelligence will be making a big entrance on the platform. You'll be able to generate images and stickers, and even chat with chatbots. Stay tuned for these exciting developments that continue to make WhatsApp ever more captivating.
