It's been one new feature after another on WhatsApp, with more and more innovative ones being added all the time. This week, the popular messaging service is further enhancing its video conferencing calls with brand new options.
The latest WhatsApp beta introduces augmented reality features, specifically designed for video calls. Spotted by WaBetaInfo in WhatsApp Beta 2.24.16.6 on Android, these new features are expected to be rolled out publicly more quickly than on iOS. You can already try them out by joining the WhatsApp beta programme via the Google Play Store. If you're already one of the testers, version 2.24.16.6 is available now. Unfortunately, for those who haven't yet signed up, the beta programme is currently full.
Augmented Reality in the spotlight
What does augmented reality bring to video calls on WhatsApp? It's quite simple: this technology allows dynamic filters to be added to the live image, whether it's faces or backgrounds. WhatsApp now includes a specific button to smooth users' faces, eliminating the need for make-up before an important call. Various additional augmented reality effects have also been added with this update. For example, a low-light mode allows you to appear more clearly in low-light conditions.
But that's not all: this beta version also features a background editing tool. You can now more easily change your background or add blur effects during your group calls. The main aim of this update is to offer more options and greater comfort to regular video callers.
With these new features, WhatsApp continues to transform and enhance the user experience, making video calling not only more fun, but also more convenient and customisable.
