On Tuesday 26 September, the population of the Busanza groupement in Rutshuru territory, under M23 occupation, sounded the alarm about the annexation of part of their land by Uganda.
According to local sources, the annexed area is located in the village of Mungo, near Bunagana.
The same sources report that a border demarcation process has been under way for several weeks between Bunagana and Musezero hill.
The previous weekend, a Ugandan delegation began installing new bollards on the Congolese side.
According to local residents, the Ugandans have penetrated around three kilometres into the DRC.
These populations, already held hostage by the M23 rebels, have now lost access to their fields, which are now located on Ugandan territory.
Provincial MP Emmanuel Ngaruye urged the government to react quickly to this worrying situation:
"We call on the Congolese government to liberate the territories occupied by the aggressors as a matter of urgency and to correct these decisions, in particular the displacement of the borders by the Ugandan authorities".
Similar allegations have also been made in the neighbouring groupement of Binza, in Rutshuru territory, where neighbouring Uganda is said to have already moved the border boundaries.
