Microsoft's Teams application has reached an important milestone with the launch of its new version, which has been extensively redesigned and improved. After years of development, Windows and Mac users can finally install it and discover its significant improvements.
Microsoft is currently rolling out the brand new version of Teams, with the main focus on the application's performance, which is now lighter and faster than ever.
In a blog post, Microsoft announces that this new version of Teams is twice as fast and uses 50 % less memory. This update was essential, as the application could be very resource-hungry, particularly on older computers. In addition, Teams should now be three times faster to install, and twice as fast to start meetings, thanks to a 70 % reduction in disk space taken up.
To achieve these improvements, Microsoft has abandoned the Electron framework in favour of Edge WebView2, a technology developed in-house. The transition to the React JavaScript library has also helped to improve the interface.
Even users of the Teams pre-release version will be in for a surprise, as Microsoft has announced that it has added new features to the final version. Anupam Pattnaik, product manager at Microsoft, says: "We've made significant progress since launching the new version of Teams as a public pre-release. The new version now offers full parity for almost all features, including custom business applications, third-party applications, 7×7 video, call queues, contextual search in discussions and channels, etc."
To take advantage of all these new features, all you need to do is update your application, whether you are a business or an individual. For those who don't, the update will be automatic over the coming months.
Microsoft also says that the Mac version of Teams has undergone significant improvements to optimise the user experience. The company claims that its new version of Teams is now fully compatible with all Mac devices, including those equipped with Apple Silicon chips.
This Teams update is also an opportunity for Microsoft to highlight Copilot, its artificial intelligence-based assistant, which makes it easy to summarise meetings and identify their key points without having to go through lengthy discussions.
The Microsoft Teams update is available via the menu at the top left of the application, giving users a smoother, more powerful experience than ever before.
