Presidential election: Call to the polls on 1 September, another step towards the electoral process

The road to presidential elections continues to take shape in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) declaring on Tuesday 29 August that the electorate would be called on 1ᵉʳ September.

In an official statement, CENI said that the Bureau de réception et de traitement des candidatures (BRTC) for the presidential election would be operational from 9 September until 8 October. The office, located on the first floor of the building housing the CENI headquarters in Kinshasa/Gombe, will be open from 8.30am to 4.30pm local time during this 30-day period.

The press release also reiterated the eligibility criteria as well as the elements required to put together a candidacy file for the presidential election.

This announcement by CENI is in line with the electoral timetable published on 26 November 2022, in which the presidential election is scheduled for December 2023. The electoral process is thus unfolding with the ultimate aim of choosing the future President of the Republic.
