Apple alert: Your iPhone could be the target of spyware

Apple recently issued a worrying alert to certain iPhone users, warning them of potential infiltration by spyware.

An alarming notification

On Wednesday 10 July, iPhone users in 98 countries received a notification from Apple warning them of hacking attempts. As reported by the specialist site TechcrunchThe aim of this initiative was to warn of imminent computer attacks.

"Apple has detected that you are the target of mercenary spyware seeking to remotely compromise the iPhone linked to your Apple ID," reads the company's message. Although the exact number of users affected remains unknown, as does the precise list of countries affected, the threat is considered serious.

A threat not to be taken lightly

Apple points out that users are probably being targeted because of their identity or activities. "Although it is impossible to achieve absolute certainty when detecting such attacks, Apple has great confidence in this warning," said the company, stressing the need to take this alert seriously.

This is not the first time the Apple brand has issued this kind of warning in 2024. In April, iPhone owners in 92 countries had already received a similar notification, often in connection with infections by Pegasus-type spyware, capable of taking total control of the mobile without any intervention from the user.

Reinforced protection measures

Apple explains on a dedicated support page that these threat notifications are intended to inform and assist users who may be targeted by mercenary spyware. "These attacks are far more complex than typical cybercriminal activity and consumer malware," the company points out.

If you receive such a warning, Apple recommends that you seek expert help, such as the Digital Security Helpline from the not-for-profit organisation Access Now. This service offers rapid intervention to resolve security problems affecting individuals or groups, particularly journalists and NGOs.

Increased vigilance recommended

In response to the rise in cyber threats, Apple is continuing to strengthen its security measures and inform its users to protect them against sophisticated spyware. It is crucial for iPhone owners to remain vigilant and follow Apple's recommendations to prevent their devices from being compromised.

With this alert, Apple is reaffirming its commitment to the security of its users and the fight against emerging digital threats. Vigilance and responsiveness remain the best weapons against these insidious attacks.
