Kinshasa: Almost 1,000 new nurses sworn in, a celebration full of hope

In an atmosphere of solemnity and hope, nearly a thousand new nurses were sworn in at the celebration of the National Day of the Nursing Profession in the DRC, held on Monday 31 July in Kinshasa.

On this occasion, the President of the National Order of Nurses, Komba Djeko, called for the effective implementation of universal health cover in the DRC, a vision supported by the Head of State.

The profession will regain its nobility thanks to the implementation of universal healthcare, which will enable hospitals to have medicines and treatment equipment available at all times", he stressed.

He also stressed that the implementation of universal healthcare will help to eliminate the dishonourable and humiliating practices associated with the nursing profession.

Health Minister Samuel-Roger Mulamba advised the new nurses to treat patients with dignity:

I heard your oath, I heard the word dignity for the sick, dignity for patients.

Certificates of merit and loyalty to the profession were awarded to a number of nurses, testifying to their commitment and dedication to their noble profession.
